 Food on Foot is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Tax-ID#31-1581053) dedicated to providing the poor and homeless of Los Angeles with nutritious meals, clothing, and assistance in the transition to employment and life off the streets. Food on Foot operates a weekly meal program every Sunday in Hollywood. Food on Foot began in March 1996 as one man's response to the hunger he witnessed among the poor and homeless of Hollywood. What initially began as the distribution of meals from the trunk of a car has grown through the dedication of its volunteers and now serves more than 250 meals each week to homeless, disabled, elderly and low-income adults and children. more about us >
Volunteer of the Week Lisa - Christmas Day sponsor - 01/22/2012I made the right choice. I witnessed my dollars going straight to the people for whom I had given. The homeless and in-need individuals and families in Hollywood. Some had come to LA for fortunes, some were born into the cycle of poverty, others were addicted to drugs or other addictions. What was true of all of them ~ the appreciation for the warm sleeping bag, the bus tokens, and the hot chicken dinner we were serving.Beyond the lines of people that came through for those items, were the amazing people who had finished the program and now had jobs, apartments, and responsibility in the community. As some gave us "2 minutes" of their stories, I was moved to heartfelt compassion for the road each of them had taken, as well as the feeling of being proud for them for the choices they had made to get where they were today.Food on Foot walks alongside people most in need and gives them an opportunity out of homelessness --- if the path out is chosen. It's a hard road if they decide this, but the support to do the hard work is there through Food on Foot. I was most honored to see this in person on Christmas Day and encourage anyone who wants to make a tangible difference, to volunteer or donate towards this most worthy and dedicated organization.-Lisa How Can I Help Food on Foot?Donate - Send a check or make a online donation. 100% of your donation goes toward the purchase of much needed food and is a tax-deductible contribution! Details... Clothing - Donate your gently worn clothing (infant to adult sizes), shoes, blankets, backpacks, etc. It's a tax-deductible contribution! These donations are accepted every Sunday between 10:30am - 2:30pm at our Hollywood feeding location, 1625 N. Sponsor a Hollywood ServingWould you like to bring a group of your workers, friends, etc. to a Sunday Hollywood serving? We have groups of 20-30 volunteers that wish to volunteer for a specific date. A donation of $2500 covers all of the costs of food and food gift cards for our Work for Food crew. This donation will allow your group to participate in every part of our Sunday activities and your group will be the ONLY volunteers for that day. Many have graduated our program and now have full time jobs that enable them to pay for their housing and leave all government assistance.
